Progress pic.

Progress pic of the seagrass flats painting I am currently working. Doing research for this one really gets me thinking of all the macro life that is dependent on this ecosystem. Seagrass is a crucial ecosystem to our oceans as they provide food and shelter for larval crustaceans, juvenile fishes, and sea turtles.

And here it is!

I spent all day yesterday in the studio working on this one! Thank you to @cathyjahn for allowing me to paint her Singer Island morning photo.

Everywhere this sea turtle goes she draws a crowd. This 30″ x 40″ oil painting on canvas depicts a pair of Moorish Idols, threadfin butterfly fish, millseed butterfly fish, and raccoon butterfly fish all joining her on her journey. Inspired by the marine life of Hawaii, these reef fish school together and offer their services to larger marine animals in the form of cleaning stations. When a pelagic animal stops at a cleaning station, the reef fish rid them of parasites, dead skin, and other ailments. Some even clean the teeth of predators!

Looking out across the bay as the sun sets on another amazing day in the tropics while the ocean laps at your feet. The blazing heat of the day subsides to the cool kiss of mother ocean. This work is perfect for reminding us that the ocean will wait for you. Inspired by the photography of Elijah Nishi.
